Only thing those kids need is a bit of pace and power. Some will naturally develop it - others might need some guidance.

Get them in the gym and sprint training this Summer.

Come back next season ready to dominate.

From the team last night they all has something about them . I can't remember a youth or U23 team of ours looking so competent. Right through the team there was individuals but all played as a team.
Even Kelly who looks 13 played a good part. I've watched a lot of the games of the U23's and 18's it seems like when Mubama was doing well with the U23's he kept playing for the youths too. Looks like we have prioritised the Cup.
Clayton has impressed me a lot, he's a very attacking left back but has slotted in very well as a center half. Bit of a Steve Potts about him.
Would love to see Mubama against Palace for some minutes plus a couple of others. But if Moyes can't use 5 subs tonight then there's no hope

Yep, all true, but the game has changed since 2010, fellas, especially in England where the week-by-week league is more physical.

Iā€™m not saying you have to be 6ft 3 and power-lifting. Just that, whatever your size, you have to maximise your physicality. So if your 5ft 6 then get yourself conditioned for it.

Zola and our own Joe Cole have talked about this extensively. Believe it or not, both spent a lot of time in the gym trying to maximise what size they had.

But these lads have time.

I remember Ferguson after a beating by Barcelona saying something like, they had those little guys running about the midfield and we couldn't get the ball.

South Bank

Remember Spain dominated World football with a midfield of 5ā€™7ā€™ā€™

Technically gifted as opposed to power houses

Couple of obvious points: with exceptions like Divin Mubama, who is built like a brick shithouse for a youngster, several of our better youths do need to bulk up a wee bit.

Plenty of time for it. But one or two of the more technical players (Scarles, Marshall) need to learn how to put themselves about a bit. When you get to 18, you're playing against giant blokes half the time - and some physicality is needed, even if you're a small and crafty fucker.

Joe Cole is quite open about this, and how he had to work on his physicality even though he was never 'big'.

But what a performance last night - and congratulations to the team and coaches.

Thought our keeper, Terry, looked the part. Really good performance from him - and constantly communicated with his defence.

Like the cut of his jib.

Likewise, the better-known youngsters like Scarles, Marhsall, Divin and skipper Kodua. Others, too.

There's some talent in there. Just hope we don't waste it!

The difference is all those players you mentioned we had to buy wouldn't it be refreshing if some of these lads progressed to the first team.
Sucks!.Are you a Yank?

Percy Dalton

You do a dis service to the likes of Di Canio, Repka, Coufal and Fornals. You also overstate the loyalty if some of our homegrowns. Generalisations like this suck.

Obviously it's too early at this stage to tell who is going to make it and who isn't, but I am particularly hopeful for Kodua. The way he pounced on the defender's mistake and then lobbed the keeper - both the quick thinking and the execution were top drawer. He's clearly got something about him, being skipper of a successful side like this. Quite a few others with loads of potential there too.

Didn't Kodua get released by Arsenal? Must have been very sweet for him!

Yeah totally agree with that he looks very good a giant in the making.
Really enjoyed that and hope if they progress in their careers we might have a better future than relying on fancy dan foreigners that have no loyalty to the club.

Looked like a top draw save from that free kick in the first half, and he was pretty unlucky his initial save dropped right to their player in space for the opener. Was impressed by him too.

Really impressed with the young keeper (Terry) from Canvey... looks to have the lot... Ok I have not seen him dribble the ball out of defence and give it to the opposition to tap into an empty net like modern keepers love to do... but apart from that... he looked very good

Brilliant night made even better by a top away support. It must have been great for the lads to play in front of that, it felt like a home game with our packed end and the sparse Arsenal crowd. It made me laugh that it was a bit of a family day out for the Arsenal fans and then you look at our end with 7000 proper West Ham. Very funny seeing them finally wake up and join into stand up if you hate Tottenham. As for the game, I thought the defence were the most impressive. The CB's won everything in the air and so many times it dropped for Arsenal in the box when you expect the net to bulge, the lads threw themselves in and blocked everything. Mubama was fairly quiet but won everything in the air, he looked a bit knackered by the end but really impressed with Kodua who I knew nothing about, what a goal that was. Very enjoyable night

El - For fucks sake, are you actually for real? We had 8000 paying fans there and you're giving our Director of Football and the club captain for going along? What a a completely bizarre, wishy washy thing to com out with, and what else would they have better to do anyway? Zero interest in your rebuttal, son. Mental.

easthammer, you have a point and one of the 99 team that I was convinced would have reached the top was adam newton. sadly I think he only played in the lower divisions but had everything talent wise. I think this current crop are better collectively than that 99 team, we just need a forward thinking manager now to bring a few of them through in the seasons to come

Rice and Noble both at the game- really great to see. And they joined in with the celebrations in the dressing room. So important for the youngsters to see those faces in there and taking an interest.

And hats off to Rice. Even if he is on the way out, he really didn't have to go along- it's clear he really cares and understands his responsibility to the club, even if his destiny lies elsewhere.

Billy Horschal also there!
